Born to Kill

About My Vietnam Service

I was drafted in April of 1969 along with a lot of other guys, if you were around then, you will understand what I am saying, if you recieved that "notice" from Uncle Sam you either served or you went to Canada...not liking the cold I decided to serve in the "HOT" of Vietnam.  Well! anyway I went, and today I am proud of the fact that when I was called, I went ...and I served "My Country". When I got to training it seems they needed a lot of "grunts",  for you lay people that's infantrymen.

I spent the first year, here in the States in training After being drafted I was sent to Basic Training at Ft Bliss, TX,  AIT at Fort Ord CA,  NCOC School at Ft Benning GA, graduating as a Buck Sgt E-5, and then I was sent to Ft Polk, LA for OJT where I was promoted to SSG E-6. Then it was on to Nam in April of 1970. When I reached Vietnam I was sent to the 25th Division at CuChi where I was assigned to my unit Delta Co. 2nd  Bn, 27th Infantry Reg  AKA the Wolfhounds a bad ass unit who had seen a lot of action in Vietnam...by the way if the patch (it looks like a strawberry with a bolt of lightening in it) looks familiar too you ...it's because it was in the movie "Platoon" which was based on the 25th Division in Vietnam. I spent 8 months with this kick ass unit as a platoon leader my rank at the time was Staff Sergeant...I made some friends and lost a few too.

Then in November of 1970 the Wolfhounds were sent home and I was sent to MACV {Military Assistance Command Vietnam} MACV Adv Team 50  44th STZ in Cao Lahn in the delta where I served as the Message Center Chief for Col. David Hackworth, a real American hero, whose web page I am supplying a link too on my  Favorite Links Page. Four months later my stint with the US Army was over and I was back home in civies ...well so much for that! ENJOY the pictures and music on my pages.
